Couple transform stunning Whitsundays resort to its former glory after it was destroyed by cyclone

A married couple have put their stunning Whitsundays resort on the market after repairing the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Laureth and Wayne Rumble bought Elysian Eco Retreat, on Long Island, in the wake of the natural disaster in 2017 and turned their attention to rebuilding the gem.

The couple, who moved from South Africa to Australia in 2008, feel it’s time to pass on the dreamy resort to the right hands so they can downsize and focus on family time with their three children under four.

‘We definitely have a passion for islands, having lived on Pumpkin Island for the last 11 years and we wanted to restore this (resort) to its former glory,’ Mr Rumble told Daily Mail Australia.

After a successful start to the year, the Rumbles are ready to sell up and return their focus to Pumpkin Island – a private island eco-retreat, only 14 kilometres off the coast from Yeppoon.

‘We have poured our hearts and souls into Elysian to create an oasis and we feel that we are ready to hand it over to the right person,’ Mr Rumble said.

Mr Rumble said the couple knew the resort was worth restoring.

‘Somehow it just touched our hearts, the natural beauty was breathtaking and there was an incredible sense of peace and tranquility from the surrounding rainforest,’ he said.

‘Living on an island (Pumpkin) means we have a great support team of tradies, friends and family, so we decided to take on our dream project.

‘The renovation took 14 months to complete and has been such an amazing experience.’

Growing up in South Africa the couple said everyone learnt about Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef.

Laureth, a seasoned diver who has travelled to destinations all over the world, said nothing compared to the reef.
