United Airlines has unveiled its brand new aircraft livery – but it has received a very mixed reaction on social media.
The Chicago-based airline’s hallmark gold colors are out, and three different shades of blue are in.
The new design has been painted on one of the airline’s Boeing 737s and will eventually feature on every aircraft in the carrier’s fleet.

Taking to Twitter, aviation enthusiasts debated the new logo with some proclaiming it amazing, while others said it lacked creativity.
Okan Turcan wasn’t a fan, writing: ‘I don’t like it; the old (Continental style) livery was very nice with the blue and gold colors. This has just become boring and the blue is too much in your face.’
While Mike Hastings said: ‘@United looks like you ran out of funding while trying to paint your new livery to be almost the same as the old. Next time, a hint of creativity would go a long way.’
However, JP Converts said: ‘@united I think the new livery is amazing. I’m sure you’re inundated with opinions and wanted to add mine. Nice job.’

Other people took to social media to praise the new design, with one Twitter user saying it was ‘amazing’
And Marshall Jackson agreed, saying: ‘I think the new @United livery looks fine. There. I said it.’
According to United Airlines, three shades have been used in the design – Rhapsody Blue, United Blue and Sky Blue.
It added it was keeping its globe logo on the tail, which will now appear predominantly in Sky Blue. The engines and wingtips are being painted United Blue.
United says that the swoop that customers and employees have expressed fondness for on its Dreamliner fleet will be added to all aircraft in Rhapsody Blue.

United’s name will appear larger on the aircraft body and the lower half of the body will be painted Runway Grey.
Its mission statement of ‘Connecting people. Uniting the world’ will also be painted near the door of each aircraft.
